Fremont High School Modernization

Oakland, CA

Modernization of an active campus in four phases beginning with a new entry, drop-off, and main gate, followed by a new science building that houses 8 classrooms, 2 large computer labs and an open entry lobby that encourages student collaboration. Design and construction of the new building was the first in a series of upgrades that included modernization of the main school building, upgrades to the shop building and conversion of old classrooms to a new Health and Wellness Center. A new synthetic field and track were the culmination of the project as well as pedestrian circulation throughout featuring plantings of California natives that are low water and low maintenance. The school campus is historically significant dating back to 1905 and it was critical to honor it's importance to the community while also modernizing it and incorporating new state-of-the-art features to bring it into the 21st century.
